There are certain vaccines that all horses require regardless of where you live in the U.S. EEE, WEE, WNV (West Nile Encephalomyelitis) and tetnus are the ones that can cause severe illness that often leads to death.
Rabies is also a required vaccination as rabies reports have recently been on the rise.TAPS believes Illinois horse owners should be vigilant on their vaccination programs in regards to disease prevention.
A copy of a current Coggins, vaccinations and signed Release of Liability must be on file prior to any horse being unloaded on the property.
We use some of the finest professionals in our area and work together to keep the horses in our care in good health. The Arthur Veterinary Clinic provides outstanding care to our animals.
We are also very blessed by our convenient location to the University of Illinois Large Animal Clinic. We are approximately 23 miles south of the U of I Clinic. They provide us with very efficient and prompt emergency services by their Ambulatory Field Team of vets if needed.
FARRIER SERVICES
We have all heard the phrase, "No foot ... No Horse" and we all strive to provide the best farrier care and services possible for our horses.
This is why TAPS is proud to have one of the finest farriers in the area, Mr. Chris Jess. He visits the stable on a regular schedule of every 4-5 weeks.
Arrangements can be made if you prefer your own farrier or vet services.
NUTRITION & EXERCISE
Horses are fed grain rations twice daily. We feed Strategy by
Purina, a quality pelleted feed. Supplements can be arranged. Our
pastures provide ample grazing in the warm months.
In the late fall and winter we like to provide plenty of quality free-choice grass hay as "boredom hay" to ensure the gastrointestinal health of the animals. Our grass hay is grown on the farm or purchased locally.
For the extreme cold months of winter we also like to feed alfalfa-mixed
hay which is proudly purchased from Prairieland Feeds of Savoy. They
provide an analysis of the hay to assure the nutritional content and
safety of the hay. We use "The Haybasket" in our pastures to assure natural grazing position for our horses.
TAPS has over 12 acres of pasture that we use for turnout.
These pastures are divided into two 4 acre tracts and two areas that are 2 acres each providing lots of space for grazing or an afternoon gallop!
We have separate paddock areas from the stall
barn.
Each with their own hay baskets and 75 gallon heated water tanks.
We like for our horses to be horses!
Horses are turned out in small
groups or individually.
We offer turnout as often as weather permits to promote the health & happiness of our horses.
Our youngsters need room to run and mom needs time to relax!
There is another large four acre pasture on the
south side with a 36x12 foot run-in shed.
The pastures are equipped
with heated automatic Nelson waterers.
THE STABLE AT TAPS

Our 12x12 foot stalls are rubber matted over a crushed limestone base. The stalls are equipped with dutch doors with safety yokes on the top
of the doors. They are equipped with turnout feeders. We provide two 5 gallon water buckets per stall and utilize heated water buckets in the freezing temperature months.
